Anita Faye Matich, known affectionately as Faye, passed away peacefully at her home in Chicago, IL, on January 25, 2024 surrounded by loved ones.

Faye was born on November 22, 1935, in Ethridge, Tennessee, to Ernie and Katie Bell Shelton. She was one of eight children. As a young adult, Faye, along with her two sisters, moved from the south to the city of Chicago. It was in Chicago that she met and married Peter L. Matich, with whom she raised four children.

A devoted mother, grandmother, and caregiver, Faye's nurturing spirit touched the lives of many. In her free time, she found joy in art, mastering woodworking and oil painting. Faye generously shared her creations, often gifting them to family members. An avid walker, Faye remained active until her stroke in 2022. Her love extended to animals, especially her three dogs Lucky, Coco, and Gigi.

Faye is survived by her four children: Donna (Bill), Peter (Cande), Anita, and Louis (Brenda); seven grandchildren: Amanda (George), Ashly (Nick), Marissa, Hailey, Preston, Luke, and Jack; and four great-grandchildren: Natalia, Michael, Ryan, and Layla. Faye is also survived by two siblings, Theo (Linda) Shelton and Edith Coots.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernie and Katie Bell Shelton, and siblings Adean, DW (Frances), Edward, Dois (Freeda), and Margie.

Visitation Monday, January 29, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Sveta Gora Serbian Orthodox Funeral Home, 3517 N. Pulaski Road, Chicago, IL 60641.

Mali Pomen (Serbian Orthodox Wake Service), Monday January 29, 2024 – 6 p.m. at Sveta Gora Serbian Orthodox Funeral Home.

Opelo (Serbian Orthodox Funeral Service) Tuesday, January 30, 2024 - 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Cathedral.

Following Opelo, interment will take place at the Montrose Cemetery, 5400 N Pulaski Rd, Chicago, IL 60630.
