Dragisa Popovic

(1923 +2011)

Dragisa Popovic, age 87, beloved husband of the late Gisela, loving father of Milan (Snezana) Popovic and Dana (Tomislav) Spremo and the late Petar; proud grandfather of Milan Jr. and Jovan Popovic; dearest great-uncle of Mima Tajsic. Dragisa was very young when he joined the legendary Chetnik Serbian Resistance Movement, Second Moravska Brigade, Mlavski Corpus which fought on the side of the Allies during WWII in the mountains of Homolje in Serbia. He barely made it alive, escaping to Italy where he recovered from typhoid fever. There he joined the British army and after the war was stationed in Germany where he met his beloved Gisela and married her in the city of Delmenhorst. Dragisa was an active member of the St. John the Baptist Serbian Orthodox Church in Bellwood, Illinois, where he held numerous positions as well as being the president of the folklore group Oplenac and a devout Orthodox Christian. Dragisa will be sorely missed by other family members, Kumovi and friends in the USA, Serbia and Germany. Memory eternal.
