Grozdana Bunčić, age 87, passed away peacefully in Serbia on Tuesday, November 29, 2022. She was born on August 25, 1935 to Milorad “Mikula” and Boginja Milić in Ljuljaci, Serbia and was the 4th oldest of 6 children. Memory eternal.

At the age of 28, she was encouraged to write and get to know Milan Bunčić, a WWII POW survivor living in the US. She came to the US on November 22, 1963 to meet him and they were married 2 weeks later. They started a family shortly thereafter with the birth of their son (Dragan) and daughter (Dragica). Grozdana was devastated when she lost Milan due to a sudden heart attack in 1977 and faced tragedy again when she lost her beloved daughter, Dragica, to cancer in 2001. She was grateful her son, Dragan, built a loving family with his wife Lisa, and 2 sons, Riley and Kyle.

She was proud of the role she played in establishing the Milić family in the US although she maintained dual citizenship and always called Serbia, “my country”. She was a good friend who helped many in the Serbian community in many ways over the years. She was gentle, feisty, fierce, stubborn, and selfless. She was a loving mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, aunt, grand-aunt, great-grand aunt, and sister. She was dearly loved by all who knew her.

Surviving is her son, Dragan (Lisa) Bunčić; 2 grandsons, Riley and Kyle and her brothers, Branko (Slavica) and Dragan (Slobodanka). She was beloved “Teta” to 8 nieces and nephews, a grand-aunt or “Baba G” to 15 and a great-grand aunt to 11. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter and 3 sisters: Rajka (“Mila”), Branka, and Draga.

Funeral services and interment will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, December 17, 2022, at St. Sava Serbian Monastery, 32377 IL Route 21 (Milwaukee Av), Libertyville, IL, 60048.
