Dear Family, Kumovi and Friends:
Moja Djeco, Moja Mila Djeco
I will always remember Baba Milka saying these words. This is how she referred to her children, grand-children and great-grandchildren. She unconditionally loved all of us and all of us loved her.
The last several months have been difficult for her family, but worst of all for her. But we want to remember all the happy times Baba Milka has given to all of us. She would want all of us to be at peace just like she is now.
I remember stories that my mom has shared growing up with Baba Milka. Like when my mom was little, she would go to Jewel with Baba Milka and they would buy cherries. Mom thought she was helping Baba by putting all these cherries in a plastic bag. Baba would tell her, “Ne tako Suzo, pull the stem off, it will make the cherries lighter on the scale.
Also, all the times Baba Milka made pita. My mom thought she was helping and all she would do is make a bunch of holes in the dough. Baba made the best pitas, sarma and polacinke. There was never a time you would go see Baba and food, or several varieties of food weren’t prepared. And you had to eat!
I remember a story of how Baba Milka and Baba Danica would always fight about Mom and Ujko Danny. Baba Milka always protected Mom from Baba Danica and Baba Danica protected Ujko Danny from Baba Milka, but the funny thing is both Baba’s protected them both from Deda Dusan’s slapa.
Baba Milka has a legacy in this room, her sons, and my grandfathers, Deda Pajo, Deda Mirko and Deda Mile. Her legacy will also live on through her grandchildren, my Mom, Susie, My Ujko Danny, Tetka Dana, and my Ujko’s Pajo, Mirko and Milan. And of course, she will live on through her great-grandchildren, my sister Maggie, whom Baba always called Mirjana and our Ivana.
Draga Baba Milka, we will always love you and be thankful for all you have given to us.
May Your Memory Be Eternal-
Your Great-Grandson, Mile Ferguson
Volim Te Baba
