Mira Popovich, 85, beloved wife of late husband Voja Popovich, passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024. Born on March 1, 1939 in Šabac, Serbia, to her father Steva and mother Anka Stojaković. Memory eternal.
Loving mother of Alexander Popovich and cherished grandmother of Steven and Olivia Popovich. Her kind and generous heart will be sorely missed by numerous other family members, kumovi and dear friends in Serbia, the USA and worldwide.
After losing her father as a young girl in World War II, and her younger brother to a childhood illness, Mira and her mother survived on their own through the end of the war.
As a young woman, after graduating from university, she taught Russian language to Serbian high school students and subsequently emigrated to America in 1964 where she met Voja and married a year later.
During her early years in the U.S., she was employed with Standard (Amoco) Oil, eventually leaving the workforce to be a stay-at-home mom, and later in life rejoining the workforce as the lead computerized typesetter for Sloboda (Liberty) Serbian newspaper.
Mira never forgot her Serbian roots, but also embraced her new country and was very much a proud American.
