------------------------------

Mirjana Božović was born on January 30, 1958, in Niš, as the second daughter of Slavoljub and Nadežda Pavlović. She had an older sister, Ljiljana, with whom she shared a very close bond. They grew up together in a home full of love. She often visited Plovnik and Supovac with her family — the birthplaces of her parents — where her grandmothers and grandfathers lived. In her closest circle, everyone knew her as Mikica. As a child and young girl, Mirjana found it hard to be separated from her mom and dad, as if she somehow knew that one day she would cross the ocean and wouldn’t get to see them often.

In Niš, she completed the “21. maj” Elementary School and later the “Bora Stanković” High School. Although she loved acting very much, after finishing high school she enrolled in the Faculty of Economics in Niš. In her second year of university, at the age of 22, she met Sveto, her future husband. Sveto had a father and family in the United States, so after they fell in love, they decided to move to Chicago in 1980. On December 1, Mirjana traveled to America for the first time in her life, where Sveto was waiting for her. The very next day, December 2, they were married, and their life together began. In December 1981, Mirjana became the mother of their son Žarko. In June 1985, the family welcomed another member — their daughter Sanja. In 2021, she became a grandmother to her first grandson, Dylan, who was her great joy. She lived to enjoy her retirement after a long career in the freight-forwarding industry.

Mirjana loved life — she never gave up, not even in her final days. She loved people, her friends, her colleagues, and above all else in the world, she loved her family. She rejoiced in every new day, every trip, every holiday, every celebration.

This year, on December 2, Mirjana and Sveto would have celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary, but life had other plans. Mirjana passed away on November 28, 2025, in Chicago, after a battle with a serious illness, at the age of 67.

It was the most beautiful journey through life — a journey through dreams, wishes, and hopes. A journey in which we learned so much from her: to love unconditionally, to give, and to spread love and smiles.
